'Growing Together in a Place of Healing'
Social farming is the practice of offering activity on family farms as a form of social support service. In social farming the farm remains a working farm at its core but invites people to participate in the day to day activities of the farm.
Ecotherapy is the name given to a wide range of treatment programmes which aim to improve your mental and physical wellbeing through doing outdoor activities in nature.
Inspiring and supporting schools to provide children with gardening opportunities to enhance their skills and boost their development.
Brian’s Wood is another important element of our social enterprise.

The woodland is named after two of our uncles named Brian who died in infancy . Brian's Wood is a way to ensure their very brief lives will be remembered for generations to come.
Brian's Wood is a dream come true for us too as we had debated planting native woodland for many years before taking the plunge in 2019 to plant almost 13,000 trees funded by DAERA's Forestry Expansion Scheme and the Woodland Trust.
We wanted to help the environment and at the same time help sustain the family farm which has been in our family for over 300 years.
Brian's Wood is also a vital part of An Tobar's day-to-day health/wellbeing and educational programmes, social farming and ecotherapy including Forest Bathing.

An Tobar Wellness Centre and Social Farm is based in South Armagh. We aim to inspire people to connect with each other, share their stories and grow communities together. We offer nature-based activities to individuals and groups to improve the health and wellbeing of our community. We are also passionate about planting native trees and protecting the biodiversity of our area.
Our Vision: Ag fás le chéile i dtearmann leighis. Growing together in a place of healing
An Tobar CIC is a not-for-profit social enterprise, set up by sisters Margaret Finnegan and Kathleen Finnegan-Agnew in April 2018.
Our site was formerly ran as Finnegan's Nursery & Garden Centre, so on our beautiful forty acre site we are fortunate to have extensive horticultural facilities, established gardens, farmland, woodland, garden shop and tearoom with kitchen/catering facilities.
''Having spent almost 30 years in the retail horticulture business we felt it was time to change, to give back to the community and work in new ways that were more fulfilling personally and would allow us to get back to the basics of gardening and connecting to nature.
We always knew that there was an element of healing and wellbeing here. People for years had been telling us how therapeutic it is and how being here makes them feel good.''
An Tobar means ‘The Well’ or ‘Well-spring’ and takes its name from a well on our farm that our grandfather and our ancestors used for 'healing' or cures.
Our participants include older people, some of whom have dementia and their carers, young people and adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health difficulties.
At An Tobar, we believe that every individual should be treated with respect and should feel included and have opportunities for personal development to help realise their full potential.
Working with plants and animals in an outdoor, natural environment is ideal for helping to achieve these aims. The results are very effective and often life-changing.
Thank you for supporting our social enterprise so together we can support our rural community.
